Mistakes are unavoidable and as a new university undergraduate you will surely experience them as you move from the comforts of living at home to independently facing the big world.
At first doing some activities like making your own meals, doing your own laundry and waking up early by yourself can be challenging and you will surely make a lot of blunder because certain things will seem confusing to you. Surprisingly, some of these mistakes are things you know already but tension makes you forget what you should do at that time.
Well here are the mistakes you will probably make as a fresher.
- Forgetting The Essentials
Most times, packing all you need to survive for a whole semester into a suitcase can be an overwhelming task, so definitely you will forget some necessary things and you must not forget like your ID. Make sure you double check your stuff before you leave.
- Bringing Pointless Things You Don’t Need
Like forgetting essential things, freshers also make the mistake of taking unnecessary things you should pack everything you own, not only will it take all of your space in your student box room, there is also the probability that it will make you forget something really important.
- Throwing Away Your Moving Boxes
Never throw all those boxes out. There are chances that you will have to move again next year. These boxes can come in handy at these times.
- Attending Every Single Fresher’s Event
You need to relax and have time for yourself. You don’t need to attend all the freshers week event, it might be tempting but giving yourself a break will be great. The fatigue that comes with it can be too much sometimes a lot of people tend to even fall ill as there body has probably never witnessed such.
- Signing Up To Every Single Society
Most freshers make the mistake of signing for every group that interests them. There is no way in can attend all those societies. Speaking from students point of view, by the time you uni proper kicks in you might end up not even attending any society. However, think only of the amazing options that interest you, that you will actually be committed to attending them and pick from them.
- Sleeping Through Your Lectures
Everyone loves to sleep, but the truth is that you came to the university to learn. Try to get a goodnight rest before your morning classes so that you won’t be tempted to sleep during lectures. Note that if this behaviour persists, it can also affect your performance.
- Shopping When You’re Hungry
Sometimes, waiting till the cupboard is empty might seem like a way to save money but actually it isn’t. Going shopping on an empty stomach will make you pick things you don’t need, making you spend more. Before going shopping, make sure you make a list of the things you actually need.
- Leaving Dishes Until They’re Moldy
No one actually enjoys washing up, but the fact is that you won’t like the after-math of leaving them even less. The same goes for emptying the trash bin, it doesn’t have to be fun, but it is definitely necessary. Ensure to sort out your time for cleaning up with your roommate nice and early.
- Pretending You’re Not Homesick
There is actually not a problem with you feeling home sick, it is quite normal. Going off to University is a big new step and the chances are, every other person is feeling the same way. Don’t push off those feelings, Call your folks when necessary and to get used to uni, make new friends and have fun.
